the stores to get last-minute gifts. how low will the prices go? we will let you know. >> a young man who helped save some of his neighbors during her consent died in a tragic accident. we will have that story coming up. >> now, let's get a look at the forecast. >> it is a very chilly christmas eve. it is just the way it should be in my opinion. let's take a look at the temperatures -- 25 degrees in frederick and manassas and culpeper. 33 degrees at reagan national and 27 in winchester. increasing clouds this morning will give ways to areas of precipitation this afternoon. by lunchtime a light wintry mix with no snow accumulation and changing to a cold rain into the afternoon. 42 will be the high temperature. >> let's take a look at the

smooth moving roadways. this is 270 at 109. very few people are committing today. there are no accidents or incidents. toward middlebrook road, things are moving well. we like to see that occasionally. university boulevard on the beltway is moving smoothly now with no accidents. we will go over toward the american legion bridge and no problems to report. it looks like this all way around the beltway and hov lanes restricted today. >> we've got a very active police investigation on capitol after a fatal shooting. >> john gonzales has more.

>> it is still too early to say what the motive was but police are currently looking for at least two armed suspects this morning. it is not the way residents in this and are expecting to start their christmas eve morning. this is not terribly far from rfk stadium. this is considered capitol hill. police got the call just after 3:00 this morning of a male victim shot in the abdomen on the sidewalk. when police arrived, they found the victim lying next to his own car, the engine still running and the headlights on. the victim died at the scene and the medical examiner's office collected evidence and move the body from the scene but police are maintaining a presence and protecting this crime scene. detectives are waiting for daylight so they can continue

collecting evidence. they are trying to figure out what happened here. residents in this capitol hill neighborhood tell us this is very unusual. a say the biggest crimes are car thefts and robberies. as for metrobus riders, busses in this area have been re- routed. this is 13th and streets c and police are still investigating. >> the montgomery county fire department investigated a carbon monoxide leak and an apartment building in the 11,300 block of columbia pike. 10 people were transported with non-serious illnesses. >> from afghanistan, the afghan police officials say an afghan police woman killed an american adviser at the headquarters in

the kabul. they are investigating to determine if the death was intentional or accidental. nato military command -- commanders are looking into this. it is not known of the victim was a military or civilian adviser. >> we are fortunate enough to have brianne carter at the mall picking out a gift for us. >> tis the season of giving. we are out here with some friendly shoppers this morning. 17 million people across the country are waiting until the last minute and will hit the stores today. we talked about what i would get what you guys might want so how about my fellow reporters? i know them pretty well so i thought that john is a big hat to god because he has to stand out in the cold. we found him this sweet deal.

smith from the rockaway section of new york has sadly died. we can show you his picture on "the new york post." he was called a hero during hurricane center after he helped save some of his neighbors during the storm because many of his neighbors were trapped by 6 feet of water and he used his surfboard and he swam using his surfboard to the front porch of his neighbors and helped rescue six people by taking them on his surfboard and getting them to safety. he was actually named one of "people magazine"'s people of the -- heroes of the year. he was in puerto rico celebrating the holidays with his family and friends and was out swimming when porter regan officials believe he drowned. he was found floating near his

i have been wanting to talk to you guys. how long did it take you guys to set that up? >> it takes us about two months to get it done. >> what is the inspiration? do you always do this? what is the method behind the madness? >> to be honest, i have had a passion since i was a to-years old. i took this from my parents and as the years went on, i wanted to bring it to a different level. for many years, i have always brought joy to my family, my friends, my neighbors, anybody who passes by my home. i love bringing a smile whether it is a little child looking at those decorations or an old person who may be just get out of the hospital. if i can put a smile on them that means a lot to me. for the first time, however, i

still have not finished their christmas shopping this year. 17 million people will be shopping today and more 60% will throw in the towel and get a gift cards. it has been a quiet holiday season at the malls and analysts say shoppers are worried about the fiscal cliff situation in washington and depressed by the connecticut school shooting. many federal workers have more time to shop. president obama give them today off. many government offices are closed. financial markets are also closing early as well as some post offices. "the hobbit" top to the box office again for the second straight weekend.

brunswick line service. >> let's check in with john gonzales. >> this happened a couple of hours ago and last we heard there were two armed suspects that people are looking for? >> the description is very vague and they did not leave behind the weapon. police have reason to believe that not only two suspects but two armed suspects are on the list this morning. this happened after 3:00 this morning and this is a residential area. not only do we have homes here but we also have a church. this is at 13th street and c street and this is considered capitol hill. police got the call after 3:00 this morning, the report of a male victim shot in the abdomen here on the sidewalk and they

found the victim lying next to what appears to be his own vehicle. moments ago we captured video of a tow truck towing the vehicle away. the car's engine was still running and that had led her on when police arrived. the victim died at the scene. the body was removed and police still have a presence here protecting this crime scene waiting for daylight so detectives can come out later and they can continue collecting clues and trying to figure out exactly what happened. at least two armed suspects are on the run with this man shot and killed on capitol hill and residents say they are very alarmed. the biggest crime around here is usually car break-ins. >> thank you. let's switch gears and talk about what will be a very busy

day, roadways at balls -- last minute shopping. >> brianne carter has been at tysons corner all morning long. our stores open at 6:30 a.m.? >> absolutely, shoppers are getting their last-minute deals. there are plenty of space is in the parking lot of people coming in to get last-minute gifts. people say it is relatively quiet now but we expect 17 million americans will be hitting the stores today on christmas eve. we have been talking all morning about the spirit of giving and what we should give to our co- workers. our minnesota co-workers like adam caskey, they are used to being in the cold so how about a coach? we can't -- coat?

there is lots of deals going on here in macy's. they seem to have been open four days. they will be open until 6:00 tonight and a number of stores are staying open extra hours to make sure shoppers can get their gets ready and wrapped in under the tree in time. many people say when you come, earlier the better. there are deals to be had. many stores are catering to the procrastinator. anywhere from 25-50% off depending on the stores. >> i feel for the people working in that store. i used to do it and it is not pretty right now. >> we owe you. >> we have a heads up for people planning to use metro over the
